The exhibition is an original project by Marta Bogdańska following in the footsteps of Selma Lagerlöf, a Swedish writer and the first woman to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1909.

In her project, the author examines Selma’s queer legacy through the prism of the present day, analyzing whether and why such heritage is important. By combining several elements – archives, photos, videos, interviews / texts, sculptures – the project sheds light on Selma’s queer heritage and its contemporary relevance to us.

An important dimension was also the materiality of the letters, as well as working with the concepts of home and belonging, which inspired Marta Bogdańska to create a series of collages and objects. The artist created them using local materials and then photographed the results of this work.

Thanks to the enrichment of the project with the participation of the local LGBTQ+ community, Selma’s biography becomes alive.
